This is by far one of my favorite looks & trends of all time. I have always been drawn to the power that a chic suit exudes. Sleek, sexy, mischievous & confident.
Since Anne Hathaway donned her perfectly tailored tuxedo at the Oscars earlier this year, it was only a matter of time for the trend to come back into full swing again.
Slightly different from the last blow out tuxedo trend in the 80s, this time round there is a hint of 70s glamour. Well tailored suits with high-waisted, wide-legged pants and soft but finished blouses. That’s not to say you can’t still rock out those chic skinny cigarette pants showing off elegant ankles. And remember you need to keep your body shape in mind as to what pants and jackets suit you, so starting with that in mind is your best bet.
To keep your tuxedo outfit looking effortlessly put together, remember these few points:
- Stay clear of skimpy tux inspired outfits that look like they could belong in a lingerie store
- Avoid overly glamorous head-to-toe tuxedo look such as heels, bow-ties & top-hats all at once
- Instead of satin ruffle blouses, opt for sheer and lightweight silks and fabrics
- Take cue’s from the 70’s and wear wide-peaked lapels and lapels in different colours and fabrics
- Don’t stick to the traditional black, try other combinations but keep it to 2 colours for a more dramatic, elegant look
- Add some 70’s glam-rock by pairing your jacket up with textured velvet leggings or go all out with a velvet suit
And if that wasn’t enough, here’s YSL’s elegant re-interpretation of the French Manicure that would complete any tuxedo look.

What an honor to be part of the first ever Vancouver Men’s Fashion Week! And being asked to speak at the seminar – an even bigger honor! Thanks to the rest of the panel, Jun Ramos (VMFW founder & Creative Director), Vivienne Taylor (Principal, Trend Fashion Marketing & Forecasting), Dr. Bryson Chow (Chiropractor) and a representative from Kiehl’s for a very interesting 2 hours!
The show was a huge success with local and international designers wowing the crowds with their beautiful and creative collections! Front row and a glass of vino – what more can you ask for?
