Swimwear Tips

As promised, here are a few tips on finding the right swimsuit for you body shape:

Heavenly Hourglass

You lovelies with an hourglass figure can luckily pull off almost any bikini or swimsuit look.  Although you need to be careful of mixing and matching as that can result in a well-proportioned body looking disproportional.  If you are a skinny hourglass, you can wear the classic string bikini with no problems.  Your shape is the perfect shape to showcase pin-up style glamour!  Choose bandeau styles that will draw attention to your curves, but detract from your hips.  Be bold and opt for prints, colours and don’t forget to accessorise with heeled sandals and an Audrey Hepburn style hat.

Pretty Pear

This shape describes girls who are smaller on top and larger on the bottom.  Mix eye-catching print tops or ruffles to enhance the bust and solid bottoms to downplay your hips.  Use ruching to distract the eye from the waist.  Hide flaws and accentuate assets with a one-piece or bottoms with coverage.  Skip skimpy — go for wide bands to keep the look streamlined.

Awesome Athletic

Girls in this category are not very curvy, but you can create some curves with the right suit. Look for padded cups or bandeau tops to give the illusion of a fuller bust.  Go for feminine tops and bottoms with ruffles, sashes, ties and fringes to create extra curves.  If you prefer more coverage,  opt for a monokini or a belted bathing one-piece (also recommended for the Apple shape below).

Amazing Apple

With a larger upper body than lower body, these lovely ladies will want to minimize a wider midsection and for this one-piece suits are best.  V-cut and plunging necklines create the illusion of a narrow waist.  Look for suits made from lycra, spandex that smooth out and flatten the tummy and a breast-lifting, underwire bra.  Shirring at the waist helps with definition and makes hips look fuller, creating an even balance.  If you are going to opt for a bikini, choose a darker top to downplay your chest and upper body.

Precious Petite

Petite ladies may find that regular-sized, one-piece suits tend to bunch around the middle, so you may need to buy from an online petite store, or the easier option would be to purchase a two-piece.  Don’t overwhelm a delicate frame with oversize prints or straps.  A plunging neck or halter-neck elongates your upper body and high-cut bottoms make legs appear longer.  A padded top gives a little oomph – but don’t overdo it.  For your specific petite body shape, e.g. petite hourglass etc, refer to the tips above.

How’s them apples

For larger chested ladies, avoid string bikinis or ones that don’t allow enough coverage as these won’t offer you any support, opt for halter neck or under-wire tops – avoid strapless tops at all costs.  For the opposite end of the scale, ladies with smaller chests, there are plenty tops that have built-in padding, underwire and by choosing tops with pretty ruffles will instantly add volume.
